It builds good soil structure; enables soil to retain nutrients\, water\, and air; protects against drought; helps maintain a neutral pH\, and protects plants from many diseases commonly found in the garden. \nFirst come\, first served. Two (2) buckets per household please. \n*WEATHER PERMITTING* \nTHANK YOU TO BIG MAN LANDSCAPING! \n \nCOMPOST FAQ \nCompost is a great way to provide natural\, organic nutrients to your lawns\, flower beds/pots and trees. Here are some common questions we get all the time that may help you when using compost for your yard. \nHow do I spread compost? \nThere are various ways to use your finished compost. You can sprinkle compost on top or mix it into your flower and vegetable beds\, gently rake compost into tree beds\, blend it with potting soil to revitalize indoor plants\, or spread it on top of the soil on your lawn as a soil amendment. \nBefore planting seeds or seedlings\, spread 2 inches of compost over the garden area\, then till the compost into the soil at a depth of 6 to 8 inches. For large gardens\, conserve limited amounts of compost by adding one trowel’s worth of finished compost into each planting hole. \nCan you use compost instead of potting soil? \nGrowing plants in pure compost can cause problems with water retention and stability as well. When mixed with topsoil\, compost works wonders with water\, as it allows good drainage through heavy soil while it retains water in sandy soil. … So\, while it may be tempting\, planting in pure compost is not a good idea \nWhen should you put compost on your garden? \nSome people recommend late fall as a good time to spread compost over a garden bed\, and cover it with a winter mulch\, such as chopped leaves. Others recommend spreading compost two weeks before planting time in the spring. \nDoes compost help plants grow? \nIn loose\, sandy soil compost helps to bind these particles together and increase the soil’s ability to retain moisture and nutrients. … Compost also adds nutrients to your soil. Compost contains a variety of the basic nutrients that plants require for healthy growth. \nCan I use compost for my lawn? \nYou can use compost to top-dress both new and existing lawns. On a seeded lawn: After sowing lawn grass seeds\, apply a thin layer — about 1/4-inch — of compost as top-dressing to help maintain consistent soil moisture while seeds germinate and tender grass seedlings get established. \nIs compost good for trees? \nOrganic mulch\, such as that derived from compost\, has all the usual benefits in addition to supplying nutrients to the soil as it decomposes. SUMMARY:224 Sandstone Valley Scouts No Contact Bottle Drive
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY JANUARY 8th\, 2022 \nActivities and programming for the 224 Sandstone Scout Group comes from fundraising activities.  We support a program for Beavers (5-7)\, Cubs (8-10)\, Scouts (11-14) and Venturers (15-17).  Our program is co-ed.  It is all run by volunteers at the group level.  We also help the community association where we can and other volunteer opportunities.  Our program lets them learn about helping others\, respecting nature\, being outdoors\, learning new skills and leadership.  It gets the youth away from their screens and lets them socialize safely. \n  \nPlease leave bottles in bags on your doorstep if you receive a door hanger (with the door hanger taped to it to show it is for the Scouts) on January 8\, 2022 and our Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts and Vent will pick up.  For those areas not on our routes we will have drop off locations at Sandstone Park and between the two schools.  Also there will be a location at MacEwan Glen Park near the tennis courts.  Please consider supporting the 224 Sandstone Scout Group.

DESCRIPTION:Bike to School day is a growing campaign that was initiated last year and with the coming of 2017’s Bike to School day\, has spread to  plenty of schools and is expected to have thousands of kids riding their bikes to school on Tuesday\, June 6th! \nAt Bike to School Day\, getting kids active and engaged with the outdoors\, their bikes\, and each other is a huge goal of ours. With the digital world becoming more and more interlaced with our world\, it is important to remember the small initiatives that can keep you healthy and grounded. Bike to school day is a project that encourages students and their parents to take part in  and build a healthy lifestyle while also showing them that it is fun and beneficial to do so. \n
