Our Community Association
The City of Calgary has over 150 Community Associations, whose role is to help support or develop community programs and events, navigate community development issues and even help with community safety. Depending on the community, some are extremely active and visible with facilities such as rinks and community centres. Others, such as Sandstone MacEwan, are a little smaller with less physical presence. Regardless of size, Community Associations are powered by volunteers, and work with the City’s Neighbourhood Partnership Coordinators to support the community’s needs.
Sandstone MacEwan CA receives numerous inquiries regarding a multitude of topics, from questions about community events, to support for seniors, to concerns about topics such as proposed developments. Our CA maintains a neutral position on most topics with the exception of those that we feel the community wishes to advocate for (such as a new rink or safety concerns). Other inquiries, such as proposed developments, we can assist with information and facilitate dialogue but we remain neutral.

Our Communities
Sandstone Valley is located northwest of Beddington Heights. Sandstone Valley was annexed to the city in two stages, in 1975 and 1979. Development of this primarily low density residential community began in 1982. Residents of Sandstone Valley enjoy outdoor recreation opportunities at nearby Nose Hill Park and on the pathway system.
The relatively young community of MacEwan is located directly north of Nose Hill Park and is bounded by Shaganappi Trail to the west, Country Hills Boulevard to the north and 14 street to the east. Land uses north of the community are generally agricultural, specifically grazing and cultivated land. The predominant land use within the community is single family residential. The topography of MacEwan may generally be described as an upland plateau surrounded by gradually sloping land, except for significant coulees which provide for intermittent natural drainage. The land comprising MacEwan was annexed to the city in two stages – in 1972, the southern portion of the community was acquired by the City, and in 1979, the remaining portion of the community was annexed.
The “Buy Local, Support Local” mindset is an important part of the community associations mission and as such we encourage all residents and visitors of our community to support our local businesses – for a list of these, please check out http://sandstonemacewan.com/news/community/buy-local-support-local.
