SEPTEMBER 2025

LFL by Barrie Griffiths

Our ‘Little Free Library’ in 300 Sandringham Court NW celebrated its 11th anniversary on 29th August this year. The current model is the second edition and has just been given a great ‘make over’ by Tim, a most generous and talented neighbour. See the photo at right.

Over the years I have been quite amazed and so pleased that many people have visited our LFL.  1000’s of books have been cycled through this little house. Although I am often sorting and replacing books, the majority of different ones are donated by readers who take one or more.

Thank you to everyone who uses the library and for not leaving unsuitable materials. The separate small box on the right side is reserved for young kids and readers. I keep it stocked as best as possible with donations and books I pick up from book sales and the Calgary Reads organization. It is so great to see young people excited about picking a book they can keep if they wish.

If you are interested in the Little Free Library organisation go to www.littlefreelibrary.org

You will note that there are now over 200,000 registered LFL’s in 128 countries. It is estimated that over 400 million books have been ’cycled’ through these small units.  Surely this supports the need for keeping the printed word in circulation and I believe there will always be a vibrant audience for ‘real’ books as well as digital ones.

Please visit often and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
